I have watched with interest your questions and opinions and it seems to me that you are a prime sucker for conspiracy theories, whether it be the McCann's or WW1. Sometimes, just occasionally, events are no more or no less than exactly as they appear to be. No one is pulling the wool, no one is lying or manipulating. I wonder if there's a small element of a paranoia in your life.

Indirectly you are correct.

World War One is considered to be the last major war for empires.

On one side you had the nations that either were very large (USSR, USA) or had great empires (BRITAIN, FRANCE, BELGIUM, NETHERLANDS).

On the other side you had nations that did not have much land , surrounded by other nations or had little in the way of empires. (GERMANY, ITALY, AUSTRIA)

The only exception to this of course was Turkey and the remains of the Ottoman Empire, which ended up in the hands of France and Britain.

So in that regard, the HAVE vs the HAVE NOT nations, you could say it was a war over resources, including but not limited to oil.

The Baghdad Railway was a project grand in conception and sweeping in scope. At first a modest effort in north-eastern Anatolia, it soon captured the enthusiasm of important men in German and Austrian financial, industrial, and political circles. This growing interest of Germany, by a sort of political third law of motion, engendered an equal and opposite reaction in Russia, France, and England. In this paper I trace the history of the Baghdad Railway from its conception in 1888 to the beginning of World War I. I will show how important the Railway was in the political, economic, and diplomatic events which led up to the First World War. I came across this a while back when i was doing some research on lies and war

The thumbs down were because as usual you didn't know what you were talkiing about. Read up on it and you will see it wasn't about oil. I'm not saying oil didn't come in to it but there was much, much more to it than that. Also why post this on Remembrance Sunday? Don't you think this was heartless to a lot of us?

Limiting yourself to one aspect about a war isn't being creative. It's simply looking for that one thing that everybody is going to automatically hate. Sure, getting the oil was certainly one objective but saying it was the only objective is very narrow minded.

You are wrong, if you study it properly if I have. WW1 was a product of many things, and the only commodity that came into account was metal ore from the ruhr.
Though it is just a thumbs down brigade - you'd probably get 6 thumbs down for saying the sky was blue!!

I've never heard that theory before - I didn't think anyone quite knew what WW1 was about other than squabbling royal families. Oil eh, so history does repeat itself.

Oil wasn't the be all and end all then that it is today. Most of the transportation systems used then (rail and ship) were powered by coal.

You post this garbage on Rememberance Sunday.

You are the most shameless specimen I have ever had the misfortune to run into.

Get a dog - it'll keep you company and give you all the attention you so desperately yearn for.
