Cute, aren't they? And to think the bowl part of the nest is not much larger than a quarter or fifty-cent piece.

Someone sent me a power point file of these photos a couple years back.

I was standing outside my place one sunny spring day several years ago when I heard a very loud sound behind me: I turned around and saw two hummers mating in mid air, or at least courting. The volume was unbelievable, at least as loud as my old guitar amp at full blast. 100-110 decibels? Amazing.

I wish I'd have caught it on film because this has yet to be filmed, or so I read.

Oh. The person who took these photos was pretty lucky. Hummer nests are usually quite well hidden.

The pictures were beautiful. I agree on how soft the nest looks. It is like the have their own mattress. I love feeding the hummingbirds in the summer. They are smart little birds. If I let them run out of food, they come up on my patio and buzz me to get my attention.

Yes, they are tiny dears!
I'm in the process of planting my yard, with a large majority of plants that provide necter for hummingbirds, includig witer-bloomers. I love watching 'hummers' flit from flower to flower! And they enjoy diving into the mist while I'm watering, too! One even stopped on my birdbath, once...

Our hummingbirds stay with us all year long... we have many feeders... all kinds of bird feeders... squirrel feeders too... the hummingbirds nest on the fork of a branch... you can purchase these little stick looking things on the Internet that are for nesting and attach them under the eves of your house. I for one let them do their own thing... ours have become very relaxed and will perch for a while so we can admire them! One of God's little gifts to us don't you think?

Thankyou for that. Hummers are my husband and my fav birds. I'm putting this on my favourites. A few summers ago ,when I was on my garden swing , I heard this loud buzzing fly by me. I thought, that is the biggest bee I've ever seen but it when it hovered over the flowers ,I was thrilled to see it was a hummingbird.

What beautiful images Cheryl. Thank you.

I wonder where she got all that batting? But the nest looked wonderfully soft, didn't it?
