Well I guess it would depend on what kind of ending was in sight.
For instance, the knowledge of an imminent event totally out of our control, such as an asteroid destroying the planet and therefore the human race in lets say, three years, would not necessarily be beneficial to our final moments on this planet. public confusion would I am sure, swiftly turn to complete social anarchy.
On the other hand, not all the perceived mechanisms for Armageddon on this planet are necessarily unstoppable. Therefore, in these cases, disclosure is a necessary precursor to planet wide debate hopefully leading to a group understanding of how to avert such a HYPOTHETICAL situation

Some govts would probably keep it top secret when a huge asteroid is going to hit Earth or when a powerful nuclear device is about to be released on another nation. Just not to cause great panic. We will probably know it when we hear such a catastrophe during the morning news from some station that has not been hit.

The gov would want to know which scientists to listen to. Some are too sensationalistic, so ignored. To get a warning based on that would be irresponsible of the Gov

Do you honestly believe any Government would do anything about it ? Or that the Opposition would let them do anything about it ?
As for me , I probably wouldn't believe it -- & even if I did , what could I possibly do in a few months , THAT I HADN'T DONE IN THE WHOLE OF MY LIFE ?

talk about life imitating art. your not aware that it may be at hand already? cmon, with the pelosi/reid regime and the tax and spend and failed welfare schemes already proposed, if the electorate doesnt wake up soon and clean up this liberal mess, you may have a ringside seat to all your question asks about.
