I have cut my thumb quite deeply (about 3mm or 1/10 inch. Immediately applied tcp. No plasters, thought would be ok.

Woked up and the cut, before was clean, is dark brown with clogged blood and my thumb is starting to hurt. Might be infected. Think people do things with salt and hot water but not sure for this. help on home remedies please.....

Normally, a deep laceration should be immediately brought to the doctors's attention for stitches; dressing for proper healing. However, if infection has set; it's better to leave it open to air to heal. You can apply Neosporin oint.or Polysporin after cleaning adequately with Hydrogen Peroxide. Note: make sure you're not allergic to such ointment. See the doctor for some antibiotic. if it's infected. You can tell if it's infected, if it looks reddened or inflammed; has a discharge; quite sore; . and refuses to heal.

From the way you descibe it; I don't think it's infected at all. The presence of dark brown coagulated blood ( fibrin) is part of the clotting factor of the blood. Naturally, it hurts as it's an injury. However, your thumb should heal in no time. If you cut it from rusty surfaces or metals, make sure your tetanus shot is up to date. it's good for 10 yrs.
