Oh shut up (not to the questionnaire).
You won't go to hell if you listen to music with bad messages and all. I'm a Christian, I believe I won't. Answerers: Research the bible you idiots before you attack us. Doesn't it say "whoever believes me shall not perish"? Well, yeah, if you listen to songs with dirty content and believe in him, then you are saved, you'll be already forgiven. Easy as that.
Plus, it's a good question.

It's all a matter of what is going on in your heart when you listen to something like you describe. Jesus set down the principle in Matthew 5 when He talked about sins of the heart and gave the example of looking lustfully at a person to whom you are not married saying that someone who did that was sinning on the inside even if on the outside they appeared to be obeying God.
So if you listen to music and the message is glorifying sinful practices and inside you are saying "Yeah! That sounds cool, I want to do that." Then you are sinning in your heart. If you hear a message in a song and it goes against what God says that His will is and you are saying "God says not to do that so it's not cool. I can't give the "amen" to what this singer is talking about" then that's a proper response.
The thing is, you have to guard the gates of your body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. You don't want to fill your eyes and ears with a bunch of godless garbage because that allows it to take a place in you thought life which is unhealthy for someone who is pursuing personal holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind; love does not envy; love does not boast, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave disgracefully, does not seek its own, is not provoked to anger, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;
Hebrews 12:14 Pursue peace and holiness with all people, without which no one shall see the Lord:

It's not about being a 'sin' as much as it is something that affects your relationship with God. There's so much bad teaching concerning 'sin'. The problem is NOT what you do or don't do; it's who or what you love more.
Listening to music with bad messages; think about what you just said. As for 'cuss' words, again... it's not about cussing or not cussing. Alot of religious people would frown if I say "damn"; but that's not sinning. The question is Am I destroying a relationship with God and /or man by doing something or am I increasing the Spiritual Oneness.
The greatest sin in our society right now is the attitude: "My life is my own and no one else can tell me what to do." There's no way to establish a short term or long term relationship with one who only thinks about SELF.

For you, if this was not bad you would not be asking this question. Listen to the content of the song. Sometimes the implied words can have the same if not worse impact on you. The Bible says, if you know something is wrong and you go ahead and do it anyway, it is sin. Think about it. I hope this helps you find what you are searching for.

Lol some funny answers .
If you keep on listening to music that has bad messages then you will get brainwashed by listening to it a lots of time and you won't realise and you do whatever the bad messages tell.
Stop listening to it before it's too late. !!
I don't think it's sin but it does lead you a way to go to hell

I don't think it is a sin but you want to be careful of what you put into your mind. Pay attention to how the music makes you feel then go from there.

I'm a Christian, and I love secular R&B and Hip Hop as well.
However, I don't listen to gangsta rap or any song with 4-letter-words.
I think it's a sin to listen to some of them if the lyrics are too offensive, but I'm not sure to what extent it should be...
Instead, I listen to Christian R&B and Holy Hip Hop such as Shei Atkins, Kierra Sheard, Commissioned, Antonio Neal, etc...
I'm struggling with my music preferance as well....
*please keep the faith*

What about good messages with cuss words?
I don't think it matters. It is hypocrisy to say one is a christian just because they don't 'believe in cussing'. There are certainly worse things a so-called christian could do. Cussing is small potatoes.

maybe you should rent "footloose."
according to the bible, beef stroganough is a sin
Exd 23:19 The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
hell, you could be sinning if you don't wipe your *** in a certain direction.
might as well do what you like.
