It is true that Jesus was a Jew.

But Jesus was also God the Son and he set up a new Church that became known as the Catholic Church.

Matthew 16:17-19 states:

Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

With love in Christ.

The Catholic Church has an official group called the Society for the Propogation of the Faith. Spreading the word is an important part of the Catholic doctrine. The Hebrew faith traditionally discouraged converts.

Jesus was born a Jew but, in fulfilling the Old Testament, He gave us a New Testament through the Catholic Church which He founded.

The fact that there are more Catholics than Jews seems to indicate that more people believe Jesus is the Messiah.

I'm a Catholic too. And to answer your question:

There are more Catholics because Jesus' own people does not really believe in Him as the Messiah. They believe that the Messiah has not yet come, but soon the Messiah shall come in all His glory. They do not recognize Jesus as the Promised One.

The Catholic Church is the universal Church founded by Christ. The word "catholic" means universal, for all people. It's why we account for 1/6th of the world's population (approx. 1.6 billion).

Hello,

Don't think too hard about numbers. Popularity doesn't always make sense, and it certainly shouldn't determine how you think. There are a lot of Radiohead fans out there, and I don't understand why, either. The important thing is that you are trying your hardest to learn about God, and to fall in love with him. He is patiently waiting for you!
