I think it's because there are so many young people in this sight and maybe Yahoo doesn't want the younger generation reading that kind of language. They hear it a lot on the streets & in school. If the parents see what they are reading, they may stop them from going to this sight and this sight might be washed off th net.

I agree, there seems to be little consistency or reasoning to some of the words which are censored.
I understand banning the use of the obvious 4 letter word, but it really irks me when I can't talk about the Blue **** on my Bird Table.

Yes - I expect they are trying to avoid offending anyone, but it doesn't really work, does it? People get round it quite easily by using spacing etc, and as you say, perfectly legitimate uses of certain words with a double meaning get 'asterisked'.

hehe, i know what you mean, but surely even you arent daft enough to now that these words you are talking about can be offensive in other contexts, and besides there are some younger users on here, who ok more then likely know the words already, but surely its better not to encourage it?

Some of the answers:

c.ock

What is wrong about those words? We can use them even if Yahoo tris to "makes us be nice".

Everything is about usage. And people don't need those banned words to insult or to be rude.

I think they're covering their backs just incase !! It is stupid! Soon we'll have to make up words since our old words have been deemed abusive.

So that people may not abuse the words.

It doesn't bother me at all, but not everyone likes "nasty" words, I consider their feelings and so should you.
