She's dreaming.

Both of my dogs do the same thing, sometimes my pit wags her tail in her sleep(LoL). My other dog is a puppy and sometimes just starts crying, really loud out of nowhere, he wakes up and then goes right back to sleep. Everybody dreams, even dogs!

i think he just loves playing with the ball, as he's grown loving it. Its his favorite toy. You shouldn't be too worried about the noises, if it does distract then maybe you can scratch his belly while he;s making the noises. He's probably having a dream about playing in his sleep, it seems normal, maybe your not playing enough with him? i think dogs dream just as much as humans do, when my lil baby pomeranian use to sleep he would move around constantly and make little sniffing noises.. hope this helps

My dog is the very same, she even has a 'wimpy' bark, like she can't be bothered with the full bark.

Like the others I just guess she's dreaming of jumping in puddles and streams (her fav past-time)

Perhaps she's dreaming of chasing a cat, or, running around your house.
