Not just religious recovery programs. Almost every program substitutes fellowship for addiction. That's the whole point of group therapy.

That said, I still think it's a better addiction than the original.

I mean no disrespect to Christians by saying this... I simply need to see proof, and then I'll believe that Jesus can heal in general. I believe that a person with an addictive personality or an addiction prone brain can become addicted to religion, AA, or even Cheese Fries. In order to believe that they have been "cured" by Jesus, instead of using Jesus as an alternate addiction, I'd need to see some medical proof, such as brain scans.

I use my belief in a higher power to help control my alcoholism- I won't ever say I'm cured, just that my alcoholism is "in remission". For now.

It pretty much is a case of replacing an addiction for booze, weed, smack or whatever with an addiction to prayer.

Now since prayer isn't directly harmful (unless they decide to forgo modern medicine for it) while the drugs are they probably are less likely to die than before they swapped addictions but they still have an addiction and still need help for it.

Just that they won't admit it, nor can they be forced to get help in the way an alcoholic can.

If someone has a drug dependancy and that's a source in the community it rather is able to help in any way, i think of it is the duty of that person to locate all avenues with the intention to assist get extra desirable. faith grants salvation to a soul. So, someone first needs to renowned some issues a million) what's a soul 2) what's God 3) what's redemption. usually drug consumers comprehend what redemption is. they have a clearer information than something of the inhabitants. it quite is to no longer say that there are no longer a lot of alcoholics/drug consumers that still fall off the wagon and nevertheless bypass to church. human beings are able to an incredible variety of behaviors. i've got been to church at 9 in the morning and been knocked over by utilising a definite somebody's fumes. (a uncommon occasion, yet for that specific who's suffering...I rather have usually puzzled at his braveness to nevertheless come to church at those cases.) strategies you the folk I went to church with knew one yet another somewhat nicely, and not in any respect could have mentioned sh*t if that they had a mouthful of it.

I agree with you completely. They just substitute one addiction for another. Granted being addicted to religion is much better than drugs or alcohol, but the person will never be totally healthy until the reason for the addictive behavior is discovered and addressed.

People can become addicted to almost anything, including religion.

Addiction to religion wont kill me in a car accident unless I am too busy trying to read all the bumper stickers on the car.

I once saw a bumper sticker that said This Car is Powered by Jesus. I thought, hey if its cheaper than gas, sign me up.

If someone has truly found the Lord, then thier addictions can be healed, TAke it from someone who both, my husband and I have laid in ICU, and are both sober today because God stopped us when nothing else could, not sickness, not seisures, not AA, not that I am against it, it just wasn't enough, I was stubbourn and wouldn't listen to anyone, God made me listen, and now I have alot of blessings because of it, when people have God, they are born again, and when a person accepts Jesus Christ into thier life, they turn from thier old self, which would include addictions, so yes God cures addictions.

Solved their addition? Arithmetic help?

Seriously, I see where you're coming from. And that would explain why many of them fall out of the faith after a few years... the high is gone, and they need to find a newer, better high. Sad, really.

Absolutely. An addict is an addict for life. Though they might not always be on drugs, they can become "addicted" to things like sex/masturbation, caffeine, and other things not quite as bad as dope.
