I live in West Virginia but want to go to collage in TN. The PROMISE scholarship won't help because it is for WV collages only. Other than sports what other help could I get?

Unfortunately, the promise scholarships tend to be for state residents for any state. However, there is a lot of help out there in the form of scholarships for college students. Also, there is the federal financial aid program. It just takes a lot more work to find enough help since the college tuition is higher for an out of state resident. I recommend applying for every scholarship you qualify for consideration no matter the amount. I will include some free resources in the community and on the web.
First, complete the FAFSA after January 1 of their senior year and before the earliest financial aid deadline. It will qualify them for need based help from the college. Even if you think your family makes too much money, you should still complete the form. It will qualify them for need based scholarships from the college endowment fund, Pell Grant (if the EFC is below 4300), work study, and student loans. The form needs to be completed every year until they graduate from college.
Second, the high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships. These are typically the easiest to get.
Third, the local public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.
Finally, join several different free membership scholarship search websites. You enter a profile with them, and it will search for scholarships matching their profile. There is a scholarship for almost anything including wearing duct tape to the prom.
