I looooove those sugar cookies at Safeway that are like doughy soft with the icing. I was wondering if anyone know how to make those? To be more specific, they're pretty thick, not the typical thin sugar cookie and they are more of a cake like consistency.
So yeah, if you could find a recipe that's pretty similar, then your're awesome!

They are called chewy sugar cookies, I can't find a recipe for them though.

For holidays we always make the sugar cookie recipe that is on the Jiffy box. They are soft and are close to the ones on the store only better! You can find Jiffy mix in all stores in the baking section

The best way to make these types of cookies at home is by actually using a cake mix for your cookies. there are tons of recipes on websites (just search "cake mix cookies," and there are recipes on the back of most boxes. Just as the others are said, make sure you don't over cook the cookies no matter how you end up making them. Good luck!

Go to Northpole.com, and go to holiday recipes, there are a ton of cookie recipes on there. The only way I know to make real soft cookies, is to not overcook them at all, only do it for the very minimum time it says to, barely golden, and they should stay soft.

okay... here is a little tip, that i have learned from baking tons of cookies while i was working my practicum hours in a pastry kitchen of a hotel....
if you add more flour - you would have less spread
if you lessen the flour - the cookies would spread more and it would be softer...
if you add more liquid - it gets more softer after you bake it
if you lessen the liquid - you would have a probably have a sandy cookie
now my last tip is to have your oven pre-heated to C180 and bake your cookies for about 6 mins... i would asure you that your cookies would be soft but cooked through...
there you go, i hope that this helps! =p

Don't over cook them they will continue to harden and cook even after you take them out of the oven . You have to experiment with the timing sometimes. We use Otis Spunkmeyer at work and if they cooked right they are chewy and delicious .. they come ready made and just need to be baked.

Try substituting butter flavoured Crisco for 1/2 of the actual butter...they'll retain more moisture. Also, use sour cream instead of the milk or cream called for...and roll thick as someone else suggested.

any sugar cookie recipe will do just do not roll the dough to thin when you cut them out and don't overcook them go to recipe .com, also do not overwork the dough ( mix it more then it need to be) just mix till the ingredients are combined this can make your dough tough
