Beyond being a friend, there really isn't much you can do. Be with her as much as you can. Be sensitive but honest. Don't lie to her (about herself), but don't be brutal either... Be around her, and do things with her. If she wants to talk, then talk. If she's scattered, try to get her to focus (by doing something, like talking, walking, or going out to eat).

She cuts to relieve the internal pain.

Treat her like you would any friend, be honest but don't go running to her all the time. Suggest she see a councillor.

And (I'm being serious) buy her some bio oil or kosmea oil to rub on her arms so her scars fade. I did this for a friend and in doing so it states, I'm aware of what you're doing and here's one practical way I can help you with the aftermath.

Encourage her to see her family doctor (offer to go with her if you can), tell her teachers and school counsellor, buy her some self help books and maybe even let Child Protection Services know (you can be annonymous). I say that because they can offer her services to get help.

tell her that she needs sum confidence 2 go and speak against her pa.tell her 2 collect all the confidence and shed her fear and tell her pa what she feels deep inside. tell her 2 be a sport and daring.tell her 2 change her avatar which is set in her pa's mind i.e. a fearful girl to a dreadful, fiery, angered girl.tell her 2 act as if she had enough from her pa and now she is her own master and she could lead her life herself. tell her 2 live her life, live life ,sing, smile who knows what is in 2 morrow, who knows, 2morrow is there or not. encourage her!!!

this is out of your control, report it to your school counselor and report it to the authorities. Dont tell your friend your doing it as she'll tell you not to....it is the only thing you can do to protect her and get some help.

try to get your friend help as soon and as fast as you can. if she is underage maybe the child protected services should be notified for possible abuse. when anyone much less a child began to cut there is ALWAYS a possibility of suicide. if you witness abuse please report it there and then. as friends we can only do so much. always let her know that you care.
may i say ...thank you for caring...
wishing you and your friend well....

share your concerns with a counsellor at school, or call child protective services, if her father is not providing her with help for her cutting, he is failing in his duty as a father.
