I have a trip to the cemetery planned as well as lunch with some buddies I served with. Does anyone else have plans?

Veteran's Day is November 11. It's Sunday. Because it's Sunday, many people have the 12th off in honor of it.

* I, and some of my veteran colleagues, donned our old uniforms and visited two grade schools. We spoke to the kids about veterans, military life, and why it is important to remember our fallen soldiers and sailors.

On Sunday, at 11:11 AM we gather at the local vet memorial for a solemn ceremony, then march down the main drag to the local Navy Club.

In the afternoon we visit the nearby Veterans' Hospital to cheer up the patients there and remind them they are appreciated and not forgotten.

Put out the flag, take the time to reflect and think about my military experiences and buddies, pray for our troops safety that are in harms way.

Unfortunately, I have to go to work on Monday, because some schools don't honor Veterans on Veterans Day by having schools in session!

My deceased Dad's birthday is on Veterans Day. But his grave site is in Los Gatos Memorial Cemetery and I am 2,000 thousand miles away.
So I celebrate the day in his memory.

Actually, It's my only day off work this week.. I intend to start painting my one bedroom.. in the process.. while i'm in deep thought.. I will be remembering my mother who was in the Army.. and who passed away at age 69 in Sept. of 2000.. along with remembering my father, who was also in the Army.. was a tailgunner and in a prisoner of war camp for a long period of time.. who also passed away.. and died at the young age of 45.. "I" am also 45 years old.. now.. considered an "orphan". but with parents well worth remembering..

I've got nowhere to go and no one to see as I'm on the opposite coast of where all my family is. :( Hubby is on deployment... so me & the kiddo will just write him a letter I suppose, and I'm hoping there will be a parade we can attend. She's 4 years old & just loves to ask the Vets all kinds of innocent toddler questions that make me blush...
