I made about 3 gallons of spaghettii sauce and put in about two tablespoons of the stuff before figuring out my mistake. Is it still okay to eat or will people die? I don't have time to remake some more so I really need to just serve this if possible. Please help!??

It looks like we're going to drain the meat out and reuse the meat but chuck the sause and try to whip up some more. Thanks everyone for the advise! If you never hear from me again it's probably because I tasted the Epsum Salted Spaghetti Sauce......*gasps for breath and keels over dead*. ;P

epsom salts can be taken internally. but they may cause diarrhea so it is up to you if ya want to surprise your friends in 3 gallons of sauce i doubt it will cause that much damage, as a matter of fact taken by mouth in small amounts they say it can be beneficial it can clean the kidneys out by increasing urinary output and detoxifying the kidneys

Epsom Salts contain mercury. I found this out recently from my son's doctor. Use a mercury free magnesium sulfate cream ( Kirkman's Labs) sells this. Many parents with autistic children have used this to remove toxins and increase the body's sulfation process. If you still want to use it place 1 -2 cups in a hot water bath and soak for at least 30 minutes. I'm not kidding about the mercury. Bleach has mercury in it also so remember to wear gloves.

I'm curious, how do you mistake epsom salts for salt?

No one will even notice diluted by 3 gallons, but for some really good jar type sauce skip the prego, as bizzare as this sounds wal-marts great value spaghetti sauce is the best off the shelf sauce I have ever tasted! Add some crushed red pepper and some Italian herbs, I'm getting kind of hungry.

call poison control they will know. if i were you i'd make a new batch what you have now will probably taste bad too.

Also salt disolves into what you put it in theres no way to get it out

this time try reading the boxes first. epsom salt usually comes in a milk carton like container. salt is in the round cylinder with metal spout on top. thats pretty hard to accidently mix up dont you think??

i wouldnt eat it it might not hurt you but i wouldnt take the chance. I would throw it away and make some more making sure i used the correct ingredients . From now on keep your epsom salts in the bathroom so you wont get it confused with your cooking ingredients. I never put it anywhere close to my cooking ingredients .. Better safe than sorry. if you have already tasted it or something call poison control.

Epson salt is not poisionous. For 3 gallons you only used 2 tablespoons, it's fine. I would make sure to taste it before I added regular salt, though.

Don't eat it. Go out and buy a few jars of prego and then tell everyone what happened I'm sure you'll have a good laugh about it.

Well, the MSDS makes frightening reading (they always do!!), but it's often used as a saline laxative so you won't kill anyone with it!!

Although it probably won't do much harm, be prepared for a queue at the bathroom!

Oh, and label your jars. Do it now whilst you remember.
