I have been using Yaz birth control for a month and I am breaking out severly around my chin area. I also use proactiv and my skin has cleared everywhere else but my chin. But my chin area is very dry, I'm using a mousturizer but still breaking out. What can I do, or does my body just need to get used to the birth control?

Birth control Pills in fact help to treat acne. They do not cause acne. - read further-

For women who break out mainly around their menstrual cycle, some birth control pills can help. Research shows that these pills can clear acne by slowing down overactive oil glands in the skin. Sometimes, birth control pills are used along with a drug called spironolactone to treat acne in adult females. This medication lowers levels of the hormone androgen in the body. Androgen stimulates the skin’s oil glands. Side effects of this drug include irregular menstruation, breast tenderness, headache and fatigue. Spironolactone is not appropriate therapy for all patients.-

The exact cause of acne is unknown, but doctors believe it results from several related factors. One important factor is rising hormone levels. These hormones, called androgens (male sex hormones), increase in both boys and girls during puberty and can cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and make more sebum. Another factor is heredity or genetics. Researchers believe that the tendency to develop acne can be inherited from parents. For example, studies have shown that many school-age boys with acne have a family history of the disorder.

Myths About the Causes of Acne

There are many myths about what causes acne. Chocolate and greasy foods are often blamed, but research has shown that foods seem to have little effect on the development and course of acne in most people. Another common myth is that dirty skin causes acne; however, blackheads and other acne lesions are not caused by dirt.

I've not had much luck with Proactive. I would recommend a medicine called Acne-Free. Try not using anything with salicylic acid and try using stuff that has benzoyl peroxide. Another thing I've had luck with (I'm really not sure, but it's recently helped) is to take vitamin A suppliments. I had a cystic pimple under my skin and after taking vitamin a for a couple days.

BC, especially Yaz, takes acne away. Unfortunately it can take several months to work. Chin acne is usually hormonal acne, so BC is one of the only things that can get rid of it. Proactiv may not work for it anymore.
