The starter may have suffered damage while it was loose. I would tell the dealer you needed to tighten it in order to be able to get it to them for inspection and repair. I don't believe they will penalize you for doing what you did.

Tell them you had to tighten up the bolt and insist they look at it. If the bolt was properly tightened during assembly of the vehicle it wouldn't have some loose.

Not only could the starter have been damaged but the all important and very expensive to replace ring gear too.

Ignoring a problem such as that can be cause to get a warranty voided. You did right.

I would tell them to also tighten the other bolt and check the one you tightened next oil change that way the nissan technician actually tightenes the bolt should something happen Warranty on Powertrain item such as starter motor is 5yr/60,000 miles.

next time just drive your vehicle to the dealership, what you should do is take it and tell them that you suspect the starter is loose or something, describe the noise. It could still be that something worse is going on under your vehicle so just take it in and the worse thing that can happen is nothing, besides is free for them to look at it since the vehicle still under warranty.
