Do not do this at home! I am a trained professional.
I stick forks and knives in toasters all the time, especially when stuff gets stuck.

I stick forks and knives in my toaster all the time. Just try to lance whatever is stuck in there and don't jam it into the side.

I've always heard that you could get electrocuted by doing so, so I never did it.
I don't know, though... is that just an old wives tale?? It just seems like you'd hear more about toaster related accidents if that really happens, ya know?! Headline: Electrocuted to Death by Toaster
I have these little wooden tongs to get stuck toast or bagels out with.

Only after unplugging.
But once I had an old toaster and stuck my fingers in the slots to pick it up to wipe it-it had a short and the shock was quite nasty! Don't recommend it.

Only when it is unplugged and I have the cord in my hand.
If you can't unplug, use a chopstick!
