when the TV stations would go off the air at like 1:00 am and that jet would fly through the sky to the poem "High Flight"

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds...and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of...wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

And then the TV would just go blank and make that noise. It always scared me.

I don't remember that song, but I remember when t.v. went off at 1:00 a.m. and the national anthem played and then there was just static. I also remember only having 3 major network stations, no remote controls, rabbit ears antennas...... :) The good old days.

Yes. However most of the stations ended with the national anthem. I memorized the poem in high school, and still love it.
