My grandfather served in the Navy in WWII.
I served in the Navy from 1960 to 1985.
I recently buried a WWII and Korean Vet.
I also buried a buddy who survived two tours in Vietnam and duty in other more obscure places in the world, who pulled my fat out of the fire on several occasions and to whom I owed my life.
To these whom I'm honored call friends, those who served with us, those who served before, to those who are serving now, and those who will serve in the future, Thanks...
There is also a WW II saying, "They also serve who stand and wait." That refers to loved ones. To them I would say, Thanks for your service too.

4 years active duty in the Air Force.... Security Forces. Currently in the Army National Guard.
Thank you very much, not enough people like you that take the time to thank the ones who sacrifice so much for so little in return. I will have the day off from work watching the Lions beat up the Cardinals.

I served my time. Four years and three months, during the Viet Nam era, but I was lucky and stationed in West Germany.
Today I went to a funeral of a vet. He made 10 trans-Atlantic trips in convoys through the wolf packs. He commanded the first ship to land in Africa. He was sent to the Pacific for two years and had orders to land in Tokyo Bay but that was canceled after Nagasaki. He never spoke about it. sadly, I had to learn of his history after he died; and I knew him for 25 years!
