No. Canola oil is used for cooking and castor oil can be used as a laxative.

No. They're very different. Castor oil was used for medicinal purposes to "clean out" the digestive system. It causes hard intestinal cramps and tastes and smells like you're drinking automotive oil. Canola oil is used for cooking. It's said to be a healthy substitute for vegetable oil.

No, castor oil is a very strong laxative, and it's supposed to be illegal in the U.S. any more, because the poison ricin is also made from the 'oil of the castor bean.' Canola is a 'breed' of grain similar to wheat, and it's got NO trans fats, and is very low in saturated fat, so you should use CANOLA oil when cooking, but use 'extra virgin olive oil' when making a marinade or a salad dressing.

no. In fact ingesting too much castor oil (and I don't exactly know what quantifies as too much) can cause horrible bouts of intestinal "issues". Giving a pregnant woman castor oil/orange juice coctails used to be considered a natural form of labor induction because of the abdominal cramping it would cause (how that all works is a topic for another venue.)

castor oil is often used in personal care products like lotions. Hydrogenated castor oil (which is the thick version as butter is to oil) is often used in lip balms and chapsticks.

Absolutely NOT!

As a bit of trivia, Canola stands for Canadian Oli, Low Acid. The name was created because it was more marketable than the old name- Rapeseed Oil.
