do you think people who have visible tattoos are less likely to get better jobs than people who dont? i really want to get a "sleeve" but im currently going to school to be an xray tech and was wondering if me getting that done would give me less of a chance of working in the hospital.

different hospitals have different policies regarding tattoos. i work at a hospital and i'm pretty sure as long as the tattoo isn't offensive they really don't have any position on it. i work with guys who have tattoos on their arms and one who even has a tattoo on the side of his neck. i have tattoos but they aren't visible at work. while you may live in arizona it'll still be fairly cold in the hospital, my mom is an x-ray tech and she wears long sleeves at work year round. to be safe i would interview with long sleeves and wear them at work unless you find out that it is acceptable at the hospital you work at to have visible tattoos.
good luck!!

We have several customers that work at the hospital.
Yes they have to cover their tattoos while at work, but since the hospital is cold anyway .. LOL they all say they would be wearing long sleeves or that extra shirt anyway!
As long as you can cover it .. there is no reason not to get it. I live down here in TX, ok you get hotter than we do but we have more humidity! I do have wrist tattoos and will have to wear a long sleeve shirt from time to time at work depending on if the head honchos are coming in or not.

I think it really depends on where you live (how conservative a place it is) and where you work (again- the conservative factor). I live in Portland, OR where tatts are commonplace, but I choose to keep mine covered while at work. I work for a school district in a conservative part of the county. One thing to think about is whether or not you will be at that job forever (unlikely) and you will want to make sure that you can be "marketable" wherever you may choose to go. I have a tattoo on my upper arm that only allows me to wear 3/4 sleeves in the summer when I am at work, which is sometimes a bummer. Hope this helps!

Yes, I think people with tattoo's are less likely to get certain types of jobs. It's totally not fair but that's the way the world views it. Hopefully, someday that will all change. In the meantime, I would go ahead and get the tattoo I wanted and just cover it up when necessary. Good luck !

For starters, I am an ink freak. If you are going to school to a tech, realize this..... hospital's keep it cold in there. You could cover it up.
But then again I don't know. Ask a few ppl that you know work in the medical field and see what they say.
You'd be surprised on how many ppl have tat's.
Good Luck and make the right choice for YOU

its all perceptions, if you ask your employer to look past the stereotypes and to try and see the whole picture you will be fine. If someone judges you based on your appearence then that is there misfortune. Since you are going into the medical field you will be networking with enlightend individuals so they will know to look at the big picture instead of stereotypes.

I have a friend who is also going to school for X-ray, and he recently got two tattoos on his wrists, his clinical instructor at the hospital made him cover his wrists for he felt that this was unprofessional.

quality, behaviors, success in the job and also your relationship with colleagues determine your future in the job not your appearance. But that does not mean you will have a tat to in your face. Some jobs have borders about your presence. So find out what u may going to do and get a tat to.Never cross border!
