I adopted my dog from the local animal shelter awhile back, and today my husband and I began discussing if dogs knew that other dogs were euthanized there. We tend to think yes, since dogs can sense earthquakes and seizures. Any thoughts?

No, I work at a dog pound.
They do get nervious from the large amount of dogs in the shelter when they first arrive, I believe animals are smart but do not think of death or dying the same way as a human. Dogs trust us so much that even if they see another dog put down they don't for a second blame us or even think we are about to kill them, kind of sad how trusting they are.
I have noticed dogs that have been adopted and then returned know they are being dumped again and often time try to run when they see the building, I fostered a dog for a few hours and when he saw the building he tried to avoid going back in, luckily this dog was adopted to a forever home that same day :)

Yes, I think dogs can sense death.

I don't know if they can do that, exactly, but they certainly can tell that there are a lot of really stressed animals being kept there.
