I've been running moderate to long distances since early 2005 and I've noticed that several pairs of my regular shoes no longer fit. I've also noticed that when I buy new shoes I've needed an 8 1/2 (used to be 7 1/2 - 8). I didn't pay much attention until I had to buy a size 9 last week! I'm way past the age where my feet should be growing. Could this be from running?

Some claim that running long distance will make your feet larger.
I have run for 50 years so I can not say whether it affected my feet.

However, I would think that the running might make your feet a little wider, but not longer.
Many people buy running shoes 1/2 size larger than street shoes.
Even if running did increase the size of your feet it is very unlikely that you would have gone up one and one half sizes.

I have found that sizes vary a lot depending on brands and styles.

I've been running cross country since i've been in 6th grade. I'm now a sophomore in college. My feet have not grown for the past 4 years.

Are you buying the same type of shoes?

The only thing I can think of is take a look at your arch (Step on a newspaper while your foot is wet) has it changed since you've started running. Maybe your foot is getting flatter because of running.

I've been running in a track club since I was in elementary school, so I haven't really noticed growing feet recently, but I can tell you that I have larger feet than many people my size. I'm a whole size larger than my mom and an inch shorter.

I agree with A.J.. Maybe your feet aren't done growing. My feet grew when I was 21 and had my 1st daughter. They stayed larger until she was about 8 when I could fit smaller sizes again. Maybe the muscles you use have developed? Don't know. Well, I had my 2nd daughter one year ago and went to get fitted and sized due to a painful achilles that was slowing me down and guess what.... my foot grew again!!

so... maybe it is genetics... maybe our muscles in our feet like running A LOT... just my thoughts...
