He had throat cancer, and the mass is at the base of his tongue. Has anyone seen cancer like this respond well to radiation and chemo? He's scared, and I'm not ready to lose my dad yet.

Sure, being scared is normal. But look who is there for your father.
Fighting cancer is a team effort. Doctors, nurses, technicians, they all play a vital part.
You're doing a big part, too. With love for your dad like you have, the cancer doesn't have a chance.
My wife went thru this 6 years ago., Sure, there were problems,, but one day she said " I went through all that?" Your father isn't going anywhere.

Sorry to hear what you're going through. Please feel free to drop me a line if you need someone to talk to; I've been through the same thing, not just with my own dad but also with patients.
Don't think of loosing your dad...think of the many happy times you will have together after you get through his fight together.
I can tell you that with throat cancer, 90% of the time it can be cured if detected early. If it has spread to surrounding tissues or lymph nodes, it can be cured 50-60% of the time, so the odds are certainly in your favor if the tumor has not spread beyond the throat tissues.
It is okay to be scared, but hang in there and embrace whatever emotions you feel along the way: fear, sadness, anger, etc. Cancer is a rollercoaster ride, but having the will to fight is just as good as any medicine. Also, know that you're not alone, there's always a place you can go to if yo need to ask questions or just vent. Good luck to you and your dad.

Am sorry to hear your dad is ill with cancer. Hopefully, he will respond well to radiation and chemo. I am a survivor (12 years now) and I wish for him, you and all your family many great times in the future.

Immediately call your doctor and ask if MONOCLONAL TREATMENTS are possible. My father had colon cancer back in 1ht late 70's, had monoclonal treatments and is cancer free. He never had radiation or chemotherapy. In simplistic terms they take a vile of blood, grow antibodies against the colon cancer cells and re inject it back into the patient. They had operated on my father and could not get all the cancer because it was to close to the heart. It completly dissappeared in about a year.

Remember that this can save his life- it may be scary, but dying is scarier. I have the best hopes for your dad.
