The amount of water is usually supposed to be 8 8fl oz of water daily. I find, if I have the water bottle with me ALL the time, i drink from it more, so i end up getting closer to what I am supposed to be getting. Also, if add a little lemon or lime juice to your water, it is more refreshing, (maybe helping with the lack of caffine). Good luck.

It's so hard to go off soda, especially caffeine, but your making a great choice! Try drinking water with each meal and with each snack, one full glass of water, just chug it down and be done with it. If it helps to carry a water bottle around, then do that. If you feel hungry or cravings, drink water. You will feel pretty crappy the first week and things will improve from there. It may take a month or so to get over being tired. Eat well all the way around. Sometimes when you go off of pop, you may have a tendency to eat more sugar, so be careful there. Also, exercise. That may seem impossible or hard to do, if your not already doing so, but it's a must and will actually help your body heal from drinking soda often. Hang in there for a good month and I promise, if your diligent, you will feel better.

I use to drink soda a lot. About 2 cans a day. About 4 months ago I started only drinking 1 can a day and then now I drink mostly juice or water. I haven't cut out all my soda drinking, but I say I drink about 3-4 small cups of soda a week.
I started exercising and that brought my water drinking levels up. You don't have to replace every meal with water to drink. If you drink a few glasses here and there throughout the day your good.
I believe 8 glasses of water a day is what a doctor recommends.

Getting off the soda & caffeine will take a period of withdrawal, but then you'll feel much better.
One way to get the water you need is to drink a cup every hour on the hour.
It depends on the weather too. If it's hot out, and you are running, you'll need to drink more.
Here are some good ideas:
1. Do something that gets your heart rate up a bit like, walking, running, biking, and swimming.
2. Eat Whole, Organic foods like: Broccoli, Cabbage, Organic Brown Rice, Beans, Spinach, Sweet Potato, Apples, and other fruits and vegetables in their Natural State.
3. Avoid eating corn, white bread, white rice, candy, sodas, chips, and anything else that you already know you shouldn’t be eating.
4. Drink clean water as your beverage of choice. Avoid Fruit drinks and fruit juices (unless YOU juice them yourself)
5. Stop smoking, drinking beer & wine, and drinking coffee.
6. Get 8 hours of sleep each night.
7. Hang out with people who want to be healthy.
8. Avoid anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup.
Tone up the muscles:
1. Join a gym and get a trainer.
2. If you’re short on cash, start a light stretching & yoga regimen.
3. Do push-ups, and light dumbbell curls for the upper body.
4. As I said above, walk, run, swim, and or bike
5. Take an aerobics class, a yoga class, or some other fitness class.
6. Join the local YMCA..
7. Buy or borrow this book by Bill Pearl called GETTING STRONGER.
In the book, he describes everything you need for a great fitness plan.
Mental Health:
1. Get a friend to talk to each day about your feelings.
2. If you have some money or insurance, get a counselor to talk to.
3. Learn how to meditate.
4. Join a support group for the issue you’re dealing with.
5. Ask your Higher Self (or God) for guidance.
6. Start keeping a diary or journal about your feelings & thoughts.
7. Write a ‘gratitude’ list every night.
8. Do something that makes you happy each day like: listen to your favorite music, draw, paint, write, or anything creative.
9. Do something for someone else who needs help.

Congratulations on your effort to cease your dependence on sodas.
As for water consumption there have been several answers that cover this topic. Specifically water intoxication can be a problem if you over consume water. Search for questions/answers on this topic.
I think anything from 16 oz to 32oz spaced throughout your day would be good. Remember ice does count as well.
Tip: Every time you urinate, replenish with a glass of water. Sip the water unless you are in a hurry.
Monitor how different amounts of water make you feel and how your body reacts to the increase in the amount of water. Any consumption should be compatible and therefore feeel good. Excess water will have less than 'feel good' effects.
Good luck with your chosen program.

Good for you on giving up sodas! My husband and I did the very same thing this past summer. We used to go through a least, a 12 pack of soda's every few days. That's a lot of sugar, not to mention the calories!
It is always recommended that we drink a minimum of 8-8oz glasses of water every day, although some diet experts will tell you that you'll need more, and some will say less. I say, listen to your body. Just think, when you feel thirsty, you are already on your way to dehydration.
While 8-8oz glasses of water sounds like it's a lot to drink, think of it this way....that is just a little under drinking 3-20oz bottles of soda a day! To help yourself stomache the water drinking, I recommend drinking at least one glass of water as soon as you get up in the morning. That way, you'll get it out of the way first thing and not have to worry about it. Then, throughout the rest of the day, have a water bottle on hand and sip on that, refill as needed.
Now, one thing to keep in mind though, since you're a heavy soda drinking, you'll have to endure the "caffeine detox", and that will be hard. You'll probably get headaches on a daily basis. This is why I don't suggest cutting soda's completely out of your system, at least not immediately. Cutting back on the soda's and upping your water intake at the same time is a good way to go. Swap one soda for a glass of water, do this everyday for a few days, then swap another glass of water for another soda. By slowly easing your body into the water, you are lessening the effect of the caffeine headache on yourself.
And if water doesn't taste good to you, there are many other options to help you out. Many water companies now offer flavored water. Most contain zero calories and fat, but you'll have to be picky about which ones you like. I'm not fond of them myself, they taste too fake to me. I prefer my water fresh, and if it's flavored, I prefer fresh lemon or lime juice. You could even try adding fresh slices of cucumber to your water to make it more refreshing.
As far as noticing any changes in yourself, once you get into a routine, the changes will be almost immediate. You'll wake up feeling fresher, you won't tire as easily, and you won't crave soda's as much. You'll eventually get to the point that all you want to drink is water.
Good luck. I know it's a hard choice, but it's a good choice!

I TOO drink more soft drinks than I would like, & I DO notice that I crave them if I'm drinking LESS than usual... So, -I've settled on a "Compromise" position. No more than 2 cups of Coke or Pepsi a day (a total of 16 oz)- and ALWAYS with ice. I drink nothing but water the REST of the time. This seems to satisfy my cravings- WITHOUT packing on the extra pounds or ruining my health. Maybe what YOU need to do- is find a "comfort level" of your OWN, so that you can "Have your Soda- & live with yourself, too! :)

It'll take a couple weeks for you to get over your caffeine addiction... but after that you'll feel better, because I did the same thing. I cut out soda from my diet and now I feel so much healthier! :]
Um, I just drink water whenever I feel thirsty at all! I don't really drink the same amount each day, it just depends on how I feel.

think of it this way, do you wanna feel better or get more sick?
and refill your used water bottle with more water instead of throwing it away. do something good for the environment at the same time :)
