St Thomas Aquinas says it is. Since much of Christian philosophy is based on his work (whether you know it or not), it has become accepted that masturbation is a sin.
Personally, I don't buy that.

Sex is in our nature, so why should masturbation be a sin? Just because a book says it?
In that case, everytime a woman has her period than she'd be sinning because those are possible babies that get flushed down the toilet!

The Church of Jesus Christ is very clear in its teachings that it is in fact a sin. The sin is committed in your heart as Jesus has said if you lust after another mans wife you have committed adultery in your heart. Don't you think he was talking about more than a (boy he or she's cute) thought that you put out of your mind right away? That goes for more than someone else' wife it can be for your boy friend or girlfriend too, or even a stranger you have seen.

Old Testament wise..it would appear so..but I think that was more because they were trying to populate the world at that time and wasted sperm was another baby not born.
These days I don't think Old Testament rules apply. We don't have to worry about populating the earth. In my mind I don't believe it to be a sin but all things must be done in moderation...as long as it doesn't comsume you I think your okay.

I believe some Bible verse somewhere says it's sin to spill your seed or something but, as with most of the Bible, the jury's out on whether that prohibts masturbation. Regardless, there's nothing unhealthy about masturbation, and I believe nothing immoral about it.

I sure hope not because this question is asked 5 or 6 times every night which means there are a lot of Christians doing it and worring about whether or not it is a sin. Sure glad I am an Atheist.

Probably. Who cares?
Eating too much is a waste. That's a sin.
Being selfish and never giving. That's a sin.
Not caring about the whole truth. That's a sin.
All things in moderation.

How many times must this be asked. The answer is the same now as it was the other day. Sicko will say yes. Sane people will say no!
