My sister is desperately needing lap band surgery( making the stomach smaller with a band around it). But she has no insurance. Are there any reesources available for her to get help paying for her surgery? And how much does the surgery cost?

the surgery is not cosmetic. She is 5'5 and weighs 290 lbs. She has developed diabetes and joint problems and sleep apnea because of the weight. She diets all the time and can't seem to lose weight.

my sister got the surgery last may and it cost 16,000 from a clinic in Toronto. She is very happy she has had the surgery. She has lost 100lbs in a yr and half. But it is very hard on her blood sugars and I'm not should it is a good decision when your sister has sugar problems all ready. Sometimes she cant eat for days.

I am pretty sure that with good credit you can finance the surgery. If not, she could always take out a personal bank loan. The surgery is quite expensive..beginning at 12,000 and can run as high as 25,000. That's without the after care that she will need following the surgery. Each follow up visit will run between $35-$200.

it will be very expensive, re-finance the house expensive. it is still considered cosmetic surgery. it hasn't been as successful as it is made out to be. over the long run, a person will, and many have, regained the weight. even though the band limits the amount of food that can enter the stomach, it will still expand over time if you eat too much
