The best choice for your purpose is the 30-06 in the 110, because it has a greater variety of bullet weights to choose from & when you own a 30-06 you don't need another Rifle.*

OK......If you want to stick with the 308 Win caliber, why not consider the Model 11F (Or the Model 10). It has the Accu-trigger, free-floating button rifled barrel, Synthetic Stock..pretty much everything you would want for both Hunting or Target shooting. MSR $539.00

I would stick with the 308 Win caliber as it's one of the most popular and versatile calibers out there. Ammunition in varioous bullet weights are available everywhere and if you re-load, even more

If you are going to hunt larger animals as in the elk or moose along with some smaller animals. I would suggest either .270 or the 7mm they would have the bullet weight and energy for a bit more knock down power, as with .270 you still can get lighter bullet for smaller game. hornady makes a wide assortment of lead for .270 as light as 110gr Vmax for fox and coyote, and up to 150gr. as for the 7mm 120gr Vmax to 175 gr monster knock down roll a critter around bullet...BUT I just remembered something .308 has way to much of a selection of bullets and available ammo, wow... I dont know what i would choose, well i think I would stick to the larger casing of the .270 and 7mm for the big critters

10s are short action, 110s are long action, like 12 and 112, it's just their way of telling you it's a short action gun.

If you want a 308 then go for it, that will be a 10. I have a 12 and I don't feel bad about the action being short.

Savage have excellent accuracy and their new trigger is lovely. Go for it.
