I mean I've heard that if I upgrade my had drive and Sony finds out they will ban me from going online.

i dont think so i think the gaming platform is stored on the hd. i wouldn't advise it.

Upgrading your hard drive doesn't affect your ability to go online. You can still go online. Most people have bought a hard drive 160GB and replace their Sony PS3 hard drive. Below is a link on how to upgrade your PS3 hard drive.

you should already be able to go on line. as i do not know about the 20 and 40 GB cause i have a 80 GB hard drive and can go on line just fine but you should already be able to do so. or maybe there is a problem with your system or Internet connection.
