I was in the Army, here is what I think:

Advantages:
Job Security
Commrodery (Friends for life)
Physical Fitness
Travel
New Experiences
Money for College

Disadvantages:
Could be stuck in a job you dont like
Could be stuck with people you dont like
You could get hurt doing all the physical activites they ask you to do
You could wind up stuck in the middle of a desert in your travels
Your new experiences could include STD's from oversea's prostitutes during deployment
And you could die before you ever get to use your college money
