First they chew it or play with it!They do that because they don't want any other dogs' to get their bone but Later they forget about it because they have been having a lot of fun or they just got a new Bone to play with!

If your dog had been abandoned when you got him, it's probably the old survival instinct kicking in from having to fend for himself, kind of a doggy version of our savings account. Or maybe he just likes to bury stuff. Every dog I've ever had, and I've had many, has always buried bones and food and has usually found it later. Heck my dog buries her squeaky toys just to keep in practice. What you might do is give him smaller bones and things that he can finish off right away. That way he may not feel the need to stash away rations for "just in case".

Now don’t forget we humans are animals as well, before HSBC was invented people used to bury their money and valuables didn’t they, and sometimes forgot where they burred it, or died before they could return to dig it up.
I wonder how much cash there is buried out there some were and no one knows about it. You hear of cash finds, some day you could be lucky too, do dig that garden more often ok. P.S. Rain is good for your garden, it keeps you off of it :-) Remember we are all animals just because we don’t like it and call ourselves humans, on many occasions we are not very humane.

It's their instinct from when they were wild animals - they bury food that's left over for a "rainy day" when there's no food available. Of course with 99 per cent of domestic dogs, that day will never come, but they can't help themselves! My dog tries to bury her treats, usually pigs ears, at the back of her kennel (complete with "digging"). Very funny!

well- my dog and i have been together 24/7 for almost ten years now.we work at various homes in two states.over that time he has buried many a bone .there are times that we have revisited those same sites years later and he will invariably return to me with one of those bones that he had buried.....so i really don't think that they actually forget about them-they more than likely want you to forget about them.

they dont' forget its about instinct. when they were wild they would bury stuff (food) and then when they were desperate to eat they would go back and unbury it and eat it so now they surely don't know why they do this but some do go back and get it but most of them get fed good and therefore never really need it. but its been long time ago when history began the wild animals did things like that.

Well depending on the type of dog that some have, they have a tendency to get distracted very easily.
