Our basement is empty. It would be perfect for my room, but my parents dont think so. How do I get them to let me have my room down there? I really dont understand why they wont let me. So if you have any suggestions on how i can get them to let me have my room down there, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

In addition to the above answer about acting like an adult (which is a good one) I would suggest coming up with a good plan on how nice it would look and how you would implement the plan and then how you would keep it clean. When one of my girls came to me about totally changing her room I told her the same thing. She did and she got what she wanted. It's all in your approach, planning and a little good salesmanship!
Give it a shot, but don't beg!!

My guess is that the basement is unfinished, so they will have to spend $$$ to make it suitable for a bedroom.

I agree with the other answers, that you should try to act like an adult, and ask them why they feel the way they do. Don't beg, unless your parents are the kind who get you everything you could possibly want, begging isn't going to change their mind.

I think that the best way to convince them to let you do it is to offer to do the work yourself, or at least as much as you can. Some things involved in converting a basement into a bedroom: installing carpet, painting the walls, moving furniture down there, possibly some electrical work if there are no outlets down there. There's probably even more that you have to consider. Also, if your central heating doesn't have any ducts leading to the basement, you will get very cold down there in the winter. If this is the case, it could be the deal breaker, because you might have to tear up some of the house to put in new ducts.

I suggest considering an alternative: turning it into a game room. If you put a TV and an old couch and table down there, and maybe a dartboard or some board games, it can be a fun place for you to hang out with your friends, without the time and $$$ needed to turn it into a bedroom.

I am a parent and if my child wonted to but there bedroom in the basement and I said no there would be a reason that I said no. So ask why they feel it is not good, and talk it out with them. If you pulled some of this other stuff that people is telling you do with me you would never get it. Act like a grown up about it.

Have a sht fit and tell them all kinds of depressing things. Make them feel sorry for you.

And if that doesn't work, then you should work for it, like REALLY work for it. But don't mention it to often, or you will be found a nuisance.

One or the other should work, but don't strain your self in the process or in the end if you wind up getting the basement, you might not like it for a while.

Also try negotiating with them, go for a discussion that involves lots of "this for thats"
