For hunting, or serious target work, a longer barrel offers better accuracy.
For concealed carry, a shorter barrel is better.
A 4" or 5" barrel seems to be a good compromise between longer barrels for accuracy and concealability.

Crystal, For a handgun firing range, any barrel length from 4" to 6" is good, fine & normal. You don't need anything longer. Although, you can get longer barrels in some Models. Any barrel shorter than 4", stay away from. Especially, 2" barrel guns. Those are too short. Generally, the longer the barrel, the more accurate. But, in firing handguns, you are not shooting very long distances. So, any gun with a 4-6" barrel is just fine. I like revolvers also. I have a bunch of them. I belong to a club in Northern California. I also reload my own ammo. If you get into shooting a lot, you should do that also. It takes some time, but, you'll make better ammo than you can buy AND you can reload for about 1/4 of what it costs to buy manufactured ammo all the time. Smith & Wesson & Ruger make good revolvers. Anyway to answer the rest of your questions... To load a revolver, usually you unlatch the cylinder from the frame of the gun via the extractor rod and the cylinder swings out. You load the ammo and then you simply close the cylinder. The recoil varies depending on what caliber of gun you are firing. The type of bullet and the load in the cartridege matters also. Go on line and find a local gun range in your area if you don't already know where one is and just talk to people there. People at gun clubs are usually very helpful, knowledgeable and happy to answer questions & help people out if you have questions. Anyway, good luck & have fun. if you want to, if you have any other questions, you can mail me. See ya...

For hunting a longer barrel with give you an edge as the bullet will more completely burn its powder. A longer barrel is not necessarily more accurate, although it will seem so. What a longer barrel does is give you more of a sight radius so it is easier to hit your target. The longer barrel will also make the bullet seem even more powerful although it will have less of a 'bang' and 'flash' since it is developing more velocity (because the gun powder is being burned more efficiently).
Best.

I own two pistols myself. I have a browning buckmark .22 semi-automatic with a 5 1/2 inch barrel for target up to 50 yards, and I have a Taurus .38 revolver with a 2 inch barrel for paper targets out to 25 yards. Basically, I use the .22 for longer distances like 26-50 yard shots because it has a longer barrel. If you're taking long range shots like to 100 yards, you want a handgun with a barrel length of at least 6 inches. This applies to .22 semi-automatic pistols and just about every type of revolver. In terms of a revolver however, the longer barrels allow for better bullet performance, more controllable recoil, better sight plane that allows for the handgun to be more accurate, and longer barreled revolvers balance better than revolvers with barrels of 4 inches or less.

Depends on the type of handgun and what its used for.
I mostly own revolvers, so that's what I'll cover.
snub nose 2-3 inch barrel, short range, very easy to conceal and draw. Best for up close personal protection, much louder than longer barrels
4-6 inch barrels are the in between of revolver barrels. Concealable, good range. Could be carried in both urban and wilderness settings for protection.
8+ The big hoss revolver barrels are the ultimate in long distance revolvers. More for hunting big game or as a big game hunters side arm. The longer the barrel the longer the draw, also very heavy.

Longer barrel length = improved accuracy at longer distances, especially when hunting. Target shooting, at close ranges , a shorter barrel 4-6 inches is going to holster easier. But you usually only start to see longer barrels on wheel guns(revolvers) compared to a semi-auto, longer barrels are not the norm.

Basically the longer the barrel the more accurate the gun will be... That being said if you'll be shooting instinctively at very close targets, the shorter the gun the better.

It depends on what you are going to use it for. The long barrel will be more accurate than the short barrel but the short barrel will be more easily concealed and drawn than the long barrel. Handguns are like any gun in the respect that you shold choose your gun based on its intended use. So, long barrel for target and hunting and short barrel for concealed carry.

The longer the barrel the more accurate it will be. The longer barrel will develop greater muzzle velocity. The shorter barrel the shorter the distance.for accuracy.

IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU WILL USE IT FOR . A LONG BARREL IS EASIER TO SIGHT WITH , SO FOR MOST PEOPLE MORE ACCURATE SHOTS . THERE IS MORE DISTANCE IN-BETWEEN THE FRONT AND REAR SIGHTS , SO IT'S EASY-ER TO AIM . A 2 " - 3 " BARREL IS ACCURATE , BUT HARDER TO AIM BECAUSE THE SIGHTS ARE CLOSER TOGETHER . ( I HAD A MODEL 36 S & W CHIEFS SPECIAL THAT AT 60 PACES , I COULD HIT 3 OUT OF 5 TIMES ON 12 OZ . POP OR BEER CANS WITH A 2 " BARREL ) . I NOW BECAUSE OF MY JOB CARRY A 5 SHOT 44 CAL WITH A 3 " BARREL , IT'S EASY TO CONCIEL . IF NEEDED IT COULD HIT A PERSON SIZE TARGET AT 100 YARDS WITHOUT A PROBLEM . IF YOU WANT THE MOST ACURATE YOU CAN GET , THEN GET A BUNTLINE WITH A 18 " BARREL . NOW ALL OF THIS IS WITH IRON SIGHTS ON A REVOLIVER , IF YOU PUT A SCOPE ON A HAND GUN THEN ALL WOULD BE MORE ACURATE . ( NOT THE GUN , BUT THE ONE USING IT WOULD BE MORE ACURATE )
