My dog had her first litter 4 days ago. There were only 2 pups. Only one survived and seems to be doing well. Should I be worried that she had such a small litter? Mommy seems to be doing fine, I'm just worried since I thought she would have had more. She's a German Shepherd/Chow Mix. The daddy is a Scotty.

Some dogs only have 1 or 2 pups. Have you took her to a vet to make sure there are no more pups in her? Have you felt her belly to check for any more? You should probably go and have her checked just to be on the safe side. Good Luck!!

A lot of large breeds have more pups, but small breeds normally have small litters. Sometimes it depends on the size of the litter that the Mommy came from. Take her to the vet for her shot that she needs after the birth. Also take the pup so the vet can check him/her out. Congratulations!

Being that the daddy was a Scottie and her a shephard/chow mix it is not unusual for her to have only two pups. As long as she is acting normal and not having any other problems she should be just fine. Good luck with your new puupy and sorry to here you lost one, if still concerned just call the Vet and ask.

Has she been to a vet? If not, a check up would not be out of order.

Shepherd/Chow/Scotty? omg, that has to be one unusual dog. Do you have pictures? Do you have a home for the pup?

Please spay her. There are so many mix dogs out there looking for a home, please don't add to the population!

there's no need to worry...some dogs just have smaller litters than others and the first litter is usually the one that will have problems...

Hope all goes well with your puppy! You may also want to consider spaying mom...one litter is enough...

Why would you breed those two dogs....??? Oh, because there ISN'T a shepard/chow/scotty (aka: Mutt) in a shelter right now and you think there should be so you let your dog have puppies....
I would make sure your dog sees a vet...Get her spayed NOW.

Larger dogs normally have smaller litters. I wouldn't worry.

Sounds like she might have been to young you don't say her age but i hope you had more scents than to breed her on her first heat.
