We the people need to get after our elected officials in Washington DC. Tax changes come from Congress.

Seriously, I'd love to see a major overhaul of the Tax Code. But, realistically, there are just too many powerful lobbyists and special interest groups to get any real reform passed.
Look how difficult it was to get the latest band-aid fix for the AMT passed last week. EVERYONE agrees that hitting millions of average taxpayers with the AMT is bad but the Taxocrats didn't want to lose all that juicy revenue for their pet socialist projects.

"We the People" aren't going to do anything about our tax code, since we don't have the authority to do anything about it. That rests with our elected officials. Given that we have 100 senators and 435 congressional representatives, do you actually think that a required number of them would ever agree to pass a complete reform of the system? Pigs will fly first, and last I heard, pigs have not started to grow feathers, much less rudimentary wings.

The hardest thing in the world to understand is income tax!
-Albert Einstein
we need to completely redo our tax system because it is so convoluted and complicated.
here is one example: my old boss paid off his work vans before the end of the year so that it looks like he had less earnings and wouldn't have to pay as much taxes. it turns out that vehicles have a 20% depreciation value so that no matter what those are counted as a 20% loss whether you owe anything or not. whatever payment you make doesn't show up. so basically he should have stretched out his payments as long as possible which doesn't seem to make sense
I feel that a simple sales tax should replace all of this rediculousness. There is an organization called FairTax that advocates this. there are so many advantages I couldn't possibly begin to explain so I'll provide a website to start you off
note: this should not be a partisan issue. my family has extremely liberal members and some conservative and this is one issue they agree on

We are going to do nothing because of politics. There are too many special interests, from the boy scouts, churches, Wall Street, parents of large families, medical practitioners, banks, to small businesses, and real estate brokers who do not want things changed. Our present system is very complex, but it is very fair. The older a civilization gets, the more complicated its laws become.

Probably gripe about it, mostly - that seems to be the national past-time any more.
