lose the fat first and worry about being "too" muscular later

Don't worry about bulking up from exercise - what will happen is that any muscle you gain will be firmer and tighter than the fat you lose, so everything will look better. Start by walking - it's inexpensive and you can do it anywhere. Just invest in some good shoes. Then invest in some in some light weights and a book or CD that demonstrates a weight training program. Fitness for Dummies is actually a pretty good book.

Starting walking. Walking is the best way to control your weight. Walking will help you tone and firm up YOUR WHOLE BODY with out bulking up. It is basically free. Although I do recommend that you get good shoes with lots of support.

If you are not use to walking start out 15 minutes twice a day.
Build your time and distance slowly over the next few months.

Walk every day......
If the weather is bad... storming. ( A little rain will not hurt you!) Play dance music at home and dance around the house. Each "song" is about 3 minutes long so 5 songs are about 15 minutes. Dance to 10 or 15 songs minimum.

When you are walking use good body alignment/posture ... Stand tall and swing your arms is a comfortable way.

I love to dance and swim ... however, if I need to take pounds off walking is a must for me.
