Hmm, in terms of season, I enjoy the Christmas season -- all the family, food, and snow. But my favorite individual holiday (is it a holiday??) is Halloween -- because I love costumes and the whole weekend is like a huge costume party. This year I went to Halloween parties each day of the weekend... You really can never have enough Halloween.

EDIT: Oh, and yes, I've gone as "The Dude" before. I did indeed bring a kit to make white russians along. (If you haven't seen the movie, it's an inside joke.. sort of.)

EDIT 2: Festivus is a Seinfeld holiday.

Christmas. I still enjoy it but not as much as I used to.

When I was growing up, Christmas was the most important holiday to my family. No matter where we were in the world, EVERYONE came home for Christmas.

We always had Christmas Eve at my grandmothers. There were so many cousins, we couldn't be bored and we were everywhere in the house. The adults always sat in the kitchen to talk about nothing, catch up, and drink and eat and smoke. The kids ran around the house everywhere. The tree was always huge, and with so many people, there were presents piled about half way up the tree (it was always a real tree at my grandmothers).

We used to have so much fun and my grandmothers was THE place to be at Christmas.

On Christmas Day, we went to my other grandparents. Though it wasn't as much fun since we didn't know that side of the family as well, it was always wonderful as we sat and talked about nothing for hours.

Religion never had anything to do with it at all. It was always about the wonder of the family.

In recent years thats changed. My grandmother on my dad's side passed away a few years ago. On the side of the family (my grandmothers house where we had all the fun on Christmas Eve) has been devastated by several deaths in the family that has resulted in the loss of the family Christmas as my grandmother now finds it too painful to celebrate.

However.... my fondest memories, to this day, are of Christmas at my grandmothers. And my last real family Christmas... the one that means the most, was the last Christmas before we found out my mother had cancer. That was in 2001. While the family didn't celebrate as we used to any longer, my mother had a Christmas of her own that year.

My sister, her then no so slimey now exhusband, my mother, my stepdad and myself were all together that year. There was a large tree in the family room, we sang songs and had a good dinner. It was the most peaceful and wonderful Christmas we had had in 10 years and we were all incredibly happy that Christmas.

My mother died in 2003. My sister and I are now divorced and remarried. I'll soon be moving to another country to be with the man I love more than anything in the world. My nephew is now 4 years old (my mother died only 5 months before he was born).

So there are both good and bad about Christmas now, celebrating it with my sister and my dad, but I'll always remember it as family time.

THAT is why Christmas is my favorite holiday. Because that time will always hold a special place in my heart when we were all happy, healthy, and having fun together.

It used to be my birthday because i would celebrate it for like a week, I would get a lot of presents, and I was usually the center of attention. But considering will be turning 29 in February I don't really care for attention so much anymore, especially when it comes to my age. So my new favorite is gonna be Thanksgiving because I have so much to be thankful for (that I'm not quite 30 yet), visiting with family that I normally don't get to see, and of course all the great food.

Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are all very fun for me.

But Thanksgiving and Halloween dont hold religious value like Christmas does. I enjoy these all of these for the community and family welfare they promote. I love seeing everyone decorate their porches and yards for Halloween and the creativity and all the pagentry that goes with it. I love eating turkey, mash potatoes, stuffing, and pumkin pie being surrounded by those I love watching Lions football on Thanksgiving. But no holiday is greater than recognizing and celebrating the birth of the Lord.

Festivus!

Edit: It was a real holiday in ancient Rome but made famous by Seinfeld. See if you can Google or youtube it. It's Festivus for the rest of us!

New Year's Eve. I take loads of drugs and go busking, during which I tend to make an awful lot of money. Oh yes indeed, I am one of the very few who start the new year with more money than I ended the old year with.

New Year's Day, not so much. I tend to feel like crap from the comedown. And the city looks like it's been slapped in the face.

I have two that I enjoy.

Thanksgiving, because of the food and the chance to get together with family and friends without feeling the need to buy them all gifts.

Halloween because I love making the house look scary as hell. I know I've succeeded when kids are afraid to approach my door lol. I love dressing up, my kids have a blast, and of course there's the candy. Can't top that!

LOL @ bete noire.

Christmas for me: The celebration of my Lord and Savior, Christmas music!, families, the temperature, the atmosphere, the movies, the lack of school!!! :D.

I enjoy Thanksgiving.

The meal, the football, and the nap afterwards. My favorite holiday.

...LOL, and then there's Festivus...for the rest of us! My favorite part of Festivus is the feats of strength.
