Dogs love consistency. If you walk your dog every day at 6:30 pm then they come to expect it and really enjoy it.

Feed them the same time every day.

Bathe them, brush them regularly.

At the age of 12 your dog may have arthritis. Good warm baths and rubdowns are great.

Take it to the vet.

Walks everyday are good in order to keep the bones and joints healthy.

Check out the "All raw diet". This is good. Dogs love to eat the bones, which also help in their consumption of calcium which they need. Raw bones do not splinter, so dont worry about that.

Be sure your dog gets a well balanced diet. Also supplements are good. Vitamin D helps the body to absorb the calcium.

WOW!!! 12 years old.......Good Job.

i have a 10 year old dog and she is a sweetheart, i always make sure i have time for her and like some of the people said scratch the belly and you can do some massaging my dog loves that, i play with her, and when i take her outside i will say i am going to get you, and she will take off running around the yard, then she will come back waiting for me to do it again, plus that is also good for her she is getting exercise, i brush her everyday, i brush her teeth everyday, i rub her in her favorite spot which is under her chin, we will be on the couch together and she will be laying there and i will whisper in her ear that i love her, she is so willing to do tricks for me like i will take here fav toy which is a rubber bone and she will sit there and i throw it in the air not to high and she likes to catch it... all you need to do is spend some time with him and i am positive he knows that he is loved, i guarantee it!!

Well, definately spend time with him, pet him lots, try taking on a new sport with him, just for fun, like agility, hunting, flyball, obedience, or just try teaching him some new tricks. definately get him some new toys, and play with them and show him that they're his. Aslo condsider sleeping near him sometimes, like have him sleep in your bed or couch, or you sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor with him. Take him on walks, at his pace, where he wants to go, and let him sniff around (I call this a joy walk!). Also try to ask some friends with dogs if they want to gets the dogs together to play. Hope this helps!

Don't just spend time, make it quality time. Spend some good quality time in training. Training is fabulous for increasing the bond between dog and handler!

Give him lots of praise . Tell him he is a good boy . Sometimes they like to hear that as much or more than they love to get a treat .

Lots of hugs and attention...keep him warm, well fed, and vet-checked regularly. At 12, it sounds like you are doing that. Because of his age, however, he's more susceptible to bad weather, diseases, and internal organ failure. Keep him checked well
