I live in the North and it gets chilly. Also, it's dark by 5 p.m. But I think this would help me with staying fitter, not to mention happier, in the winter months. Does anyone else take walks at night even in the brisk temps?

I mean, sometimes it'll be in the single digits for weeks!

I live where it is usually in the negatives for late November to February and I go for walks everyday. I bundle up with 6 layers. Its so relaxing and quite with snow falling....I just love it! Also, maybe you could try cross country skiing if it snows where you are, which I'm usuming it does if it is that cold, its great exercise and you could even just do it around your yard or street. Hope this helps!

I still go on walks in the winter (average temps range between 1-20 degree F from November - Jan, though it can dip lower for sure where I am), and it also is generally dark here early (Sunset 4:43 tonight), but I still enjoy walking more than most types of exercise. I bought myself a really warm winter jacket and get allll bundled up and go. Often times I walk so briskly that I get warm and have to take a layer off!

I live near Toronto, and uh huh..it gets mighty chilly..bundle up to cover your face/ears/head,neck and hands..where good snow boots with traction so you don't slip...you can bring a flash light since it does get dark quite early..or try to go first thing in the morning, although at times it is still quite dark out...but it does give you a boost of energy for the day~:)

If the weather is quite nasty out..try walking up and down stairs if you have them in your home, or in an apartment bldg., do situps, squats, jumping jacks, crunches, lift some weights if you can, dance for 1/2hr straight, or go to your community YMCA-if you have one near you, to swim, take some aerobic classes etc...

Drink lots of water, eat fruits/veggies, whole grains, and lean meats (chicken, turkey, lean ground beef) fish, nuts, bran, try to use whole wheat pasta and rice instead of white..stay away from the sugars & salts, (cookies, cakes, ice cream, chips, pop, juices and alcohol which packs on the pounds)

You can stay fit all winter, no matter what the weather, but YES definately walking is great if you can, (when not slippery)..just bundle up*

I have not in the past but we have a 6 month old black lab puppy that requires so much exercise. He and I have been doing a lot of walking and we will continue into the winter. I live in Ohio.

I would love to. Except I'd rather not do it in my neighborhood, so I'd have to drive somewhere to do it, but I really don't want to waste gas.
And I live in Florida so I LOVE the cooler weather because the rest of the time it's soooo hot and humid.
Maybe if we adopt a dog soon I will though. Evenings are soo nice

I do seeing as I live in AZ, but even if I loved somewhere that was that cold, I would take walks. But that because I love really cold air on my face. So, my answer is YES.

I live in New York where it snows in the summer. It sucks and I would rather eat rocks than walk in the winter.
