My first job I was at for over a year and a half but was fired. My next several jobs were through a temp agency and never took them seriously so I had about 5 jobs there. Then I went to school for a year but moved to Portland because where I lived before had no good job. I got a job the day I moved here and have been there for about 6 months. I want to make more money and have always wanted to be a police officer. How can I bypass my inconsistent work history in the application process? I am a good person, not lazy, I was just young and wanted a good job. I like my job now it just does not pay.

Thanks for the help!

OK, I did not mean lie on the application. By bypass, I mean, what can I do to counter-balance my work history. Like, what is just as important as work history that I can accentuate (not fabricate). Something that will make me not look bad for having short-lived jobs. Sorry, I guess bypass was not the best word...

Thanks

Anything and everything on your application and your pre-history questionnaire, will be addressed when you speak to your background investigator.

Deal with it there. Explain yourself to them.

Well, with a corporation, job history is a bit more important. Mainly because here is a company who's future will be determined based on the employee's abilities and loyalties.
Not only where you worked will be taken into account, but how long. Stability is a companies desire.
A Police officer many times has the abilty to be transferred to different departments within the precinct or to a different area in the city, state or different state if need be...based on openings, performance and reason they want to transfer you.
I wouldn't go the route of "hiding" anything personally, they will know that with that many jobs listed at your young age, it stands to reason that you've moved around a bit.
I'd avoid dates, list chronologically the important ones that accentuate your abilities and then let the police boot camp ferret out the rest. Moving around only might hurt your candidacy in being accepted, but once accepted, it will be based on your abilities.
Most official positions, military, police, government, etc will dismiss your or have the right to dismiss you at any time they desire if you lied on an application.

OR or ME???? Check their website. Bypassing your work history will def not get you the job, be honest about it-they will find out anyway.
Becoming a law enforcement officer requires diligence, focus and desire. More money is not a good motivator. The desire to uphold the law and defend the weak and helpless IS. From what you have said already about yourself I would be surprised if you made it through the police academy.

First of all, keep in mind that the temp agency could be considered one job, not five (hence the name). Second, just be honest.

Check with the agency for their requirements. Many are looking for applicants with at least a 2yr degree now.

Being reliable in law enforcement is very crucial. If another Officer needs help they need to depend on you. If you can try
to get a job as a dispatcher or jailer while going to the academy. It's up to you to prove your maturity.find a job & stay to prove thyself.

You have to come clean, or you will not get the opportunity.
