Do you believe in that when God created the earth it was a physical day? Well my pastor researched it, and it did mean real day - 24 hours. What do you think.
Personally, I take the bible literally, and believe it was a 24 hour day.

I do not believe God's time is the same as ours, so no, I do not take that to mean a day literally. Who really knows though?

I believe when GOD created heaven and Earth a day was a day and when he replenished Earth and created man a day was still a day so he continued to use this measure of time.
also...The first five books of the bible were dictated directly from GOD to Moses if you believe this as I do,you know Moses would have not changed a singe word so it must be taken at its literal meaning first.hidden messages will be reveled to you but do not change the literal text. so therefore a day is a day as it always has been.

Why not believe, God could have created it in 6 seconds.
Only the first day is definitely an undefined infinitesimal amount of time beyond the beginning, for the period of darkness before light was created is unknown.
The days before the sun was created could be debated, but it is unlikely that it was any different than our regular day because plants can't survive in light or darkness for a very long time having already been created.

From what Ive seen here, since the NT came along it means the OT is no longer valid (this is the arguement as to why you dont follow silly rules like killing people that trim the sides of their hair.....)
So why does this not apply to the story of creation?
And if it took a day, by what standard did He/She time a day if the planet wasnt completed til the end of it? A day is one rotation of something that didnt exist yet.......

Sorry to bust your button, but it wasn't God that created the world it was man, because it is man that is God, and he comes from a spiritual intelligence from the spiritual world, it took hundreds of millions of years to create the earth, and man showed up about a hundred thousand years ago, even the Vatican knows most of the bible is simply a mythical story, so to believe in the bible literally will only cause religious insanity, and soon we will have to build mental institutions for the religiously insane.

Volcanoes create land mass, literally overnight....Time was made for man, God is eternal and 2nd Peter 3:8 is indicative of that. the Hebrew day is 24 hours. Hope that helps.

You pastor is correct in that the wording does imply an actual 24 hour day, but where he missed the mark is his assumption that the story is a history lesson. Even the ancients knew Genesis was allegorical.

I don't mean to be offensive, but can I ask you why it matters? That's the sort of thing that no one will ever know until they stand face-to-face with God...so speculation is just...well, speculation.
As I say, I don't mean to be offensive...it just seems very futile to contemplate something that cannot be answered (by us).
EDIT:
I fail to see how it can be a question of evolution or not. Think about it: if God wanted to create one animal at a time per 24 hour day (I'm not suggesting that that's what he did -- I'm just choosing anything, arbitrarily), that is not evolution...we don't know how long it took God, how many creatures/things He created at a time, or anything of the sort.

Your "pastor" researched it.
Well - then of course he must be right.
Unless...I, too studied it at length to prepare for the teaching of a class on Genesis...and I came up with a totally opposite conclusion, based on the same texts.
Now....with science and carbon-dating blowing the idea of a "six day" creation into the weeds...
Sorry....your pastor gets a D-minus.
