Jean is a pure fake. His background is actually in dance (ballet), and I'm sure some of you remember how he got into the news for getting is *** whooped at a bar by a guy who wanted to prove that the dude was a fake. Steven is actually the real deal. He is indeed a traditionally trained Aikido master, and according to other masters, he is very very good. The stuff you see him do in movies is usually not Aikido though, for those who think it looks hokey. Aikido is not exactly an exciting action-movie type style that people would want to see.

Jean Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal are both actors. Neither can fight. Jean Claude Van Damme did sport karate (Shotokan), and Steven Seagal is a 7th Dan in Aikido, the least 'martial' art of them all.
