Van Gogh painted Starry Night while he was in an asylum at Saint Remy near Arles. June 1889- April 1990. Up to that time, he had never painted anything from imagination. He had painted a starry night before, but this time he did paint it from imagination. His aim - i.e. why did he paint it: was, in his words to produce "a kind of painting giving great consolation" He wanted to depict that "time of day when you see the green beetles and the cicadas fly up into the heat" Some people say that he was mad. But this picture proves that he was quite sane and in control when.he painted Starry Night. There is a knife-edged control between the swirling lines of the sky and whirling stars and the precise and careful depiction of th little town with its church steeple below.
By the way. I know that you need the right answer - and you can trust this. I give lectures on Van Gogh.

One starry night van gogh painted the famous oil painting Starry Night using hues of blue and gray. he painted stars that seemed to rotate in the skies in his style called impressionism. during his time he was not a famous artist he only lived a life of a struggling artist where his brother helped him financially. his style was not yet accepted then so he could not sell his paintings. van gogh was also emotionally attached and frustrated with one relationship and perhaps this added to his problem, or perhaps he was only too emotionally frustrated and lost his rationality that he cut one of his ears

Starry
starry night
paint your palette blue and grey
look out on a summer's day
with eyes that know the
darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills
sketch the trees and the daffodils
catch the breeze and the winter chills
in colors on the snowy linen land.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me
how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
they did not know how
perhaps they'll listen now.
Starry
starry night
flaming flo'rs that brightly blaze
swirling clouds in violet haze reflect in
Vincent's eyes of China blue.
Colors changing hue
morning fields of amber grain
weathered faces lined in pain
are soothed beneath the artist's
loving hand.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me
how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
perhaps they'll listen now.
For they could not love you
but still your love was true
and when no hope was left in sight on that starry
starry night.
You took your life
as lovers often do;
But I could have told you
Vincent
this world was never
meant for one
as beautiful as you.
Starry
starry night
portraits hung in empty halls
frameless heads on nameless walls
with eyes
that watch the world and can't forget.
Like the stranger that you've met
the ragged men in ragged clothes
the silver thorn of bloody rose
lie crushed and broken
on the virgin snow.
And now I think I know what you tried to say to me
how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
they're not
list'ning still
perhaps they never will.

If youare are talking about Starry night, he was in a mental institution because he couldnt' paint and went "crazy". One night he painted that picture from his room and the next day he left the metal asylum.

Sounds like you are dealing with a Don McClane song.
He killed himself, listen to the song...or read the actual history.

he did kill himself and he did have issues of mental stability, he gut-shot himself took three days to die and it must have been excruciating...poor sot had fallen head over heals for a hooker and sliced off his ear to give to her...the man had some issues.
as far as the painting "one starry night" i dunno what he did, except paint it...and it probably took much longer than one night.
