THAT is a great question. I stopped calling upon him because I finally figured out that the same outcome would happen whether or not I prayed. However, if there is a god who does answer prayers and is "all-powerful", I'd have to say that he's doing a fairly crappy job of it - or else he's just absolutely sadistic and has no problem watching millions of people suffer immeasurably.

Grasping at straws are we? Didn't you have enough to build an actual straw man to tear down?
Well, in any case, your example isn't even in the Bible - it's just something that somebody once said to encourage people to try to better themselves. It's a nice ideal, and I agree that people should help themselves, but the Bible says that God only helps the helpless, those who humble themselves. In fact, the Bible even says that God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. So what's YOUR excuse?

Sorry, God does not owe you or me anything. He gave it all on the cross, everything else is secondary. Corrie Ten Boon said, "You'll never know how much you need Jesus until Jesus is all that you need." In simpler terms, you can't curse Jesus, then expect His blessings. He is more than eager to answer your prayers, but until you recognize that you need Him daily because He is Lord and not because you feel He owes you, then you will always be found lacking. That is a lie.......God does not help those who help themselves. He helps those who lean on and are completely devoted to Him, those who realize that without Him one second would mean great loss and failure.

To those of us who believe in God, who trust God, who love God - He is omnipotent and powerful; our rock and refuge, an ever-present help in times of trouble.
But to unbelievers like you - yes, I agree. He is impotent.

Because God is not a vending machine.
Or
He is not your slave always ready to serve you upon your beck and call.
God works through people to help other people in need.

God is always with us and helping us in our lives.
Perhaps your faith is impotent...or lack thereof.
