If there are 2 apples-one poisonous, the other not- and there are 2 people who know the answer, one who only tells the truth, and the other only tells a lie. You are only allowed to ask one question to find out which apple is not poisonous. What question do you ask?

You ask either of them the question "If I ask the other person which apple is poisonous, which one would he say?" Whatever the person says you eat THAT apple because if its the truth teller he would know that the liar would lie and show you the non-poisonous one... If you asked the liar he would know that the other would tell the truth, but he would lie and show you the non-poisonous one.

ask them both to eat one apple each
because you don't know what person only tells the truth and which person only tells a lie so if asked is this apple was poisonous you wouldn't know if it was the truth or not. so you ask each of them to each eat an apple.

Two answers.

1. Ask either of the people 'If I were to ask you which tree had the safe apples, what would you say?' The truthful person will tell the truth, the liar will lie about what he would have said, which is a lie.

2. Ask either of the people 'If I were to ask the other person which tree is safe, what would he say?' Then eat from the other tree.

You would ask either one, "Which apple would the other guy say is not poisonous?" The one who tells the truth would know the other one would lie, and point to the poison one.

The guy who lies, knows the other would tell the truth, but he would lie about it and point to the poisonous one.

So which ever one they say, you eat the other one.

With that question, no matter which one answers, you know the correct answer.

Ask a guy:
"If I asked the other guy which apple was poisonous, what would he say?"

No matter who you ask, the point would always be on the good apple. Take the apple the guy you asked points to.

Ask them what the other would say if I where to ask witch one is NOT pouisonus:

The truth teller would show you what the lair would say and show you the poisonous apple

The lair would show you the apple that the truth teller would show and that would be the same apple so you eat the other.

you ask.. what would the other person way the non-poisonous apple was..

the one that lied knew that the truth person would say the right one.. and because he always lies.. he would say which wasn't the right one

the truth person would know that the other person would say the wrong one.. so he/she would say the wrong one

you know it's the oppisite of what they both say
