I have been a nascar fan for 10 years and i was wondering if it is true that the lead lap cars pit first then the cars that are lapped?

Yes, that is true. Under caution, when the pits open, any cars on the lead lap are allowed to pit first and then the lap down cars that elect to pit are allowed to pit the second time around.

true, but i did notice that carl edwards was pitting with the lead lap cars a couple weeks ago when he was laps down. so do the drivers in the chase also get preferential treatment?
