Even in a rural town in South Texas, there is Panko. I couldn't believe it when I saw it as I used to live in Hawaii and cooked with it all the time!! It should be in your market where all other bread crumbs or fish fry things are. It is made by Kikkoman and is a white box with breaded fried shrimp on the cover, red top. Excellent for chicken katsu, fried shrimp, everything fried or even oven fried.

It's called Panko. Go back to teh grocery store and check the ethnic aisle or the baking aisle where they have the other bread crumbs.

It is called Panko bread crumbs. You can find them in the Oriental or Asian aisles of the grocery store. I always find them at Wegmans.

Make sure you ask for Panko...that's what they are called. They are a really fine crumb. Try in the asian area of the market, they are usually in a can with a pull top.

You need to go to an ethnic store. There are plenty around, you just have to search for them. I live in Maryland and we have Indian, Korean, Japanese, and all those type of stores.. Google them in your area and Im sure youll come up with something.

Many of the better markets (big chains) have an ethnic foods aisle and should carry them. If they don't and you have the time to wait, many markets will order them for you.
