How do I make crumb topping for pies from scratch?

One pie is Apple the other is Cherry. Please, no recipes other than the crumb topping. Thanks in advance.

FRENCH CRUMB TOPPING:

1/3 c. butter
1/3 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. flour
1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Make French Crumb Topping by mixing 1/3 cup butter and 1/3 cup brown sugar together. Cut in 3/4 cup flour. Stir in nuts.

Crumb Topping for Apple Pie
1/2 c Brown sugar
1/4 c Flour, all-purpose
1/4 c Butter, melted
1/2 c Nuts, chopped
-(walnuts, pecans, etc.)
Combine brown sugar, flour, melted butter and nuts. Spread over top of the filling.

Crumb Topping for Cherry Pie
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup quick cooking oatmeal
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 to 4 tablespoons chopped pecans
Mix butter, oatmeal, flour, sugar and pecans until crumbly; sprinkle over cherry pie filling.
