i used to bite my nails, but now ive stopped completely. you do have to really want it, you cant just make yourself stop. you have to make a commitment to yourself that you wont bite it for a certain amount of time and then overtime it will become habbit to NOT bite your nails. here are a few tips/thigns to help you:
paint your nails
use nail polish remover before you paint your nails because the taste will stay on and it will tase aweful
chew gum
keep a bottle of water with you to always drink. it helps you stop and its good for you
write something on your hand or fingers reminding you to stop that you will see when you are about to bite your nails
make yourself a deal. start with a short amount of time (how ever many days you want) and say if you dont bite your nails for _ days, you get some sort of prize (a spa day, etc.)
good luck!!

I used to bite my nails all the time, but I stopped, someone told me that you should take clear nail polish, put a clove of garlic and a piece of cinnamon in it. Then shake it up and let it sit there for a couple of days. The smell will prevent you from biting your nails AND as a bonus, it helps your nails grow really, really fast. IT DOES WORK!!!

if you're a girl you can have fake acrylic nails put on over your real nails. This way you can't possibly bite your nails because they are semi-permanently over your real ones below. This also allows time for your real nails to grow out underneath. So, when the fake nails come off, you've forgotten about biting your nails and your real nails are long and pretty beneath!!!

don't bother with the manicure or the stuff you put on that tastes bad. anyone who's ever bitten their nails knows, it doesn't really work. it takes a conscious effort on your part. you just have to remember that you're trying to stop and put your hand down every time you bring it up to your face. it's that simple. it's not easy to break a habit that's gone on for a long time but after about a week, the act of putting your hand up will stop being a natural thing.

Buy some gross tasting nail polish and wear that... Also chew gum amap (as much as possible) because then you won't feel like you need to chew on your nails.

Get a manicure. Then your nails will look too pretty to bite :-)
Or, you can get this stuff called "STOP" and it's a clear polish you paint on your nails, and when it dries it tastes reeeally bad.

Instead of nail polish, put "krazey glue" on the tips.
It will be to hard to bite them.
Don't glue your fingers together - use nail polish remover (acetone) to un-stick krazey glue
