Most experts suggest starting to potty train when the child displays interest in learning. I might suggest buying a potty and putting it in the bathroom. You can start to explain what it is for, but I wouldn't expect him to start being interested in potty training until at least 2. Also see below:

Most people say wait on the child, but my first son was so lazy if I would have waited on him he would still be in diapers and he is almost 4!?!? I made him potty train right around his 3rd birthday but my 18 month old is already potty trained (which is also a boy)

It is different with each child but there is no reason why you cant sit him on a little potty chair once in a while and see how he likes it. My son walked at 9 months and was trained by 16 months.

It is different for every child, and the right time is determined by the child, not by the parent. If you force a child into potty training before they are ready, you can cause psychological problems that will be with your child for a long time. When your child is ready, he/she will let you know.

For a boy, I would absolutely wait until he is at least 2 years old before you even think about it! MOst boys train between 2 and 3, and many are still not trained well into being over 3 yrs old. It's easier when they are older and care more about it themselves and can participate and know what to do and what's expected. It really only takes a few days when they are ready.

I have never gone on an age, when the child can say potty and starts bringing you a diaper when they need changing. That's a child who is ready.

I've been told when the child shows interest in the potty, you notice that he stays dry all night, he removes his diaper after peeing or pooping. I started potty training my daughter at 2 yrs old, she almost has it.. still working on peeing, she gets too busy in her playtime and doesn't realize she has to until she's already done it lol
Good luck =)

well for my kids from an early age we would prompt them to let us know when its time for potty. but as a dad of four I can tell you from first hand that every kid is diffrent. my kids were about 18 months or a bit older before they started potty training

I was just talking to my parents/family friends about this (I am 32 weeks pregnant and have read a lot of different ages) they said depending on the kid, around 2 years old is a good age, a little earlier or a little later depending on their personality etc.
Good luck!!!
